Partners for Peace in the Niger Delta (P4P) Commemorates World Peace Day 2023

    By P4P Niger Delta | Briefing | 0 comment | 21 September, 2023 | 0

Partners for Peace in the Niger Delta (P4P) joins the global community in commemorating the International Day of Peace, also known as World Peace Day, today September 21, 2023. This year’s theme, “Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the Global Goals,” highlights the importance of individual and collective efforts in achieving peace, unity, and sustainable development. It equally resonates deeply with P4P’s mission and activities in the Niger Delta region. The Niger Delta has faced its share of challenges over the years, including conflict, environmental degradation, and economic disparities. P4P remains committed to the principles of peacebuilding and sustainable development to foster a better future for the people of the Niger Delta.

In line with the United Nations’ call for prevention, dialogue, and mediation to heal divisions and defuse conflicts, P4P has implemented various initiatives to promote peace and development in the Niger Delta. These include:

Youth Empowerment Programs: Engaging young people as positive and constructive social agents, P4P has provided training, mentorship, and entrepreneurship opportunities to empower them and contribute to the region’s peace and development.

Community Dialogue and Mediation: Facilitating peaceful resolutions of conflicts, P4P has organized community dialogues and mediation sessions, bringing together various stakeholders to address grievances and promote understanding in the nine states of the region.

Advocacy for Sustainable Development: P4P has been actively advocating for sustainable development in the Niger Delta, emphasizing the importance of responsible resource management, environmental protection, and inclusive growth.
To mark this year’s World Peace Day, P4P will be organizing a series of events and activities, including:

Peace Walk: A symbolic walk to raise awareness about the importance of peace and unity in the Niger Delta region.
Youth Symposium Webinar: A platform for young people to share their perspectives on peacebuilding and discuss innovative solutions to the challenges facing the region.

Community Outreach: Engaging with local communities to promote peace, unity, and sustainable development through various initiatives, such as tree planting, clean-up campaigns, and skills training.

On this World Peace Day, P4P calls on all stakeholders in the Niger Delta region and beyond to renew their commitment to peace, dialogue, and cooperation. Together, we can build a more equitable, sustainable, and peaceful world for current and future generations
